Youth Support
The youth support service is designed to raise the level of self-esteem and confidence amongst the most at risk Māori taiohi in the Hutt Valley region by utilising Māori principles, practices and values to assist taiohi to apply these positively to their lives and the lives of their whānau.
Working one-on-one or in groups with taiohi offering support and advice in the area of suicide prevention, self-esteem and confidence building, advocacy and abuse prevention programmes, such as:
- Holiday Programme : targeted at those identified “at risk” young Māori taiohi between the ages of 10 – 13yrs. Referrals to this programme must come through CYFS, Police, schools or other community social work agency
- Dawn Programme : follows a strict 10 week programme Taiaha Wānanga philosophy available to boys between the ages of 9 years and over. Referrals to this programme must come through CYFS, Police, schools or other community social work agency
- Hui Rangatahi : a weekend of respite care for taiohi between the ages of 10 – 15yrs. This is only available to taiohi of whānau being supported by Kokiri Marae social workers
- One-on-One Support : working with individual taiohi to improve their long term outcomes.
