Nutrition and Physical Activity
This service is designed to improve the health and well being of Whanau through healthy eating and regular physical activity.
The programme aims to work proactively to develop and implement policies that support healthy food choices and increased physical activity. Strengthening strategic alliances and networks to promote healthy food choices and involvement in physical activity is an imperative component of this service.
The coverage area for this service is all of the Hutt Valley. The nutrition and physical activity team comprises three full time staff.
"Kanohi ki te kanohi" - We are a mobile service so are able to visit you in your home.

Mauri Oho Mauri Tau Programme (Whanau programme)
This programme is for 9-11 year old tamariki and their whanau. It is a healthy nutrition & physical lifestyle programme for overweight tamariki or tamariki with whanau history of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and other related diseases.
Our aim is to help tamariki and their whanau make small nutrition changes and increased physical activity and to support and maintain all those changes.
Structure of the programmes:
- Education group nights for parents
- Education group nights for tamariki
- Game night for tamariki
- Holiday programme
- One week camp
- Whanau game nights
- Practical cooking lessons
- Supermarket tours
- "Kanoho ki te kanohi" Home visits
Whaia te Oranga Tinana (Nutrition) Training
This is held once a year over three days, with 3, ½ day updates.
The training comprises of basic nutrition knowledge that will enable educators to assist whanau to make changes in their eating habits.
