1982 - Timata o nga kohanga reo. Arohanui Ki Te Tanagata Te Kohanga Reo. 1985 - TKR graduates attend Gracefield School. Two hours instruction in te Reo Maori per week.
1985 - Tkr graduates attend Waiwhetu School. One hour instruction in Te Reo Maori per week. 1986 - TKR graduates move to Wilford School bi-lingual unit. 30% instruction in Te Reo Maori.
1985 - Waiwhetu School. Five hours instruction of Te Reo Maori per week. 1993 - Submission to MOE for establishment of a Kura Kaupapa Maori.
1987 - Waiwhetu whanau gains 30 hours instruction in Te Reo Maori per week at Waiwhetu School. Jan 1995 - Te Ara Whanui Private School commences at Kokiri Marae Seaview with 100% instruction in Te Reo Maori. Community funded.
1989 - Whanau gain 50% instruction in Te Reo maori at Waiwhetu School.  
August 1995 - Waiwhetu and Kokiri amalgamate
October 1995 - Approval from Minister of roll of 220 tamariki
January 1996 - Te Ara Whanui Kura Kaupapa Maori o nga kohanga reo o te ara kairangi
