The Aotearoa Maori Providers of Training, Education & Employment (AMPTEE)

AMPTEE was established as an incorporated society on 25 March 1994, with the following principal objectives, among others:

  • To promote and maintain the right of Maori people to shape, design and deliver education and training which guarantees quality outcomes for Maori learners in accordance with the Treaty of Waitangi;
  • To recognise and encourage the diversity of Maori providers of training education and employment;
  • To encourage Maori providers of training education and employment develop both a national and international profile;
  • To assist and enhance both present and future contributions of all peoples and organisations for the development and progress of AMPTEE and its individual members;
  • To support the goals for Maori providers of training education and employment to achieve excellent education outcomes and financial accountability systems; and
  • To encourage Maori providers to be involved in the market place and to develop commercial components to their policies and operations.

AMPTEE is a membership based organisation established to provide a national voice for affiliated Maori providers in the education sector. 

AMPTEE is governed by a National Executive (“Executive”) of 18 members comprising representatives from thirteen regions, in addition to the Chair and Secretary/Treasurer.

The Executive meets quarterly to discuss issues affecting affiliated Maori providers as well as provide advice to Government agencies on policies in the education, employment and training sectors.

AMPTEE is administered by the Secretary based in Wellington.  Funding for this is derived from contracts with various agencies for the provision of strategic advice.
