REVIEW AFTER MATARIKI MĀORI MARKET

Wainuiomata Marae, corner Wellington and Fitzherbert Road, Wainuiomata, Wellington.

Matariki this year took place at Wainuiomata marae. The kaumatua opened the market on Friday the 10th of June at 9.30am. Approximately 100 whanau, artists, marae staff and  community attended the opening. Kaumatua Jim Nicoles and the Reverend Wairahi Campell opened the event.

Artists from as far away as the Hawkes Bay, Levin, Paraparaumu, sent pieces or attended . We had artists who stayed, Ta Moko artists who were kept busy late into the night, and mirimiri and rongoa practitioners who were kept busy. Kaths café was kept busy serving healthy kai, and the Kaumatua were in attendance every minute  of the day.

The auction raised $3600 for the marae and a very big thank you to all the artists who donated a piece of art, weaving, vouchers, knitted garments etc.. to make the auction a success.
